For many, the state of Florida brings to mind warm weather and sunny beaches. It is a popular destination for vacations and retirement. However, Florida offers much more than just ideal climate.
Florida also boasts several top-notch colleges for the furthering of one’s education. Universities in Florida can meet the educational needs of students in a wide range of majors and from a variety of financial backgrounds.

In state tuition costs for universities in Florida also vary. Smaller colleges often list a tuition cost of about $2,200 annually. Larger universities such as Miami’s Florida International University, charge about $4, 700 in tuition per year.
Florida State University lists an annual tuition of approximately $5,200. Considering that some sources list average state tuition as over $8,000, Florida’s prices are quite reasonable indeed.
For those seeking a large university over a smaller college, Florida has many from which to choose. Tallahassee’s Florida State University boasts an enrollment of over 40,000 students. One will certainly be able to meet a wide range of people there.
However, schools with smaller numbers exist even in the realm of respected universities for those who desire them. Barry University in Miami, for example, enrolls just under 9,000 students. Lakeland’s Southeastern University is even more intimate, with fewer than 3,000 enrollees.
Universities in Florida offer a broad range of majors as well. The University of Florida indicates that its most popular major is business and marketing, with social sciences coming in second. Anthropology may seem like an obscure educational pursuit, but it is actually the university’s sixth most popular major.
The University of Central Florida has the same major as its most popular and health professions claiming the number two spot. However, there are many other courses of study one can select.
Admission requirements include meeting application deadlines, submitting ACT and SAT test scores, and having a satisfactory academic record from a previous school as well as an acceptable conduct record. Florida State University recommends sending all ACT and SAT test scores to them; they update their records if you receive a higher score. Their minimum requirements include 19 on the ACT reading and English and a 21 on ACT math. They also demand a 480 on SAT reading and 470 on SAT math. Other schools may have slightly different entrance requirement minimums.
With a number of locations across the state, most students can find at least one school in Florida to meet their continuing education needs. Universities in Florida offer excellent opportunities for pursuing degree programs in a variety of areas at an affordable cost and with reasonable admission requirements.
